Financial Crime Prevention
Banks have invested significantly in strengthening their Financial Crime Prevention frameworks, with a particular focus on Customer Due Diligence, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and fraud detection. Through these investments, banks aim to adopt the requirements of a more risk-based approach, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their controls and meet regulatory requirements.
In practice, however, the different components of Financial Crime Prevention do not always operate as one connected system. As a result, information from customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, fraud detection and investigations may not be brought together to create a holistic understanding of financial crime risk. A risk-based approach requires exactly this: a holistic understanding of how criminals misuse financial institutions. Banks detect and report this misuse, but often lack a way to close the learning loop between detection, investigation and reporting, making it difficult to continuously adapt and make the underlying controls more effective and efficient.
On 5 November, Zanders and DC Preventive Forensics (DCPF) will host an interactive half-day event that brings together more than 75 years of combined investigative experience from Ton Scholing and Diego Crijns in the financial crime prevention domain with Zanders’ expertise in data, modelling and advanced methods.
Topics will include:
- Lessons from practical cases: How do criminals operate in practice, and where may banks be vulnerable?
- Insights from investigative practice: Which trends, methods and signals are observed in criminal investigations, and how can banks incorporate these insights into their Financial Crime Prevention frameworks?
- Advanced methods for alert handling: How can advanced analytical methods help banks handle alerts more efficiently and effectively?
In an inspiring, centuries-old setting – the Sint Eloyen Gasthuis in Utrecht – participants will work through practical cases and explore how insights from criminal investigations can be translated into stronger risk assessments. They will leave with a broader and more connected perspective on Financial Crime Prevention.
The session is intended for a limited number of senior leaders and specialists working in Financial Crime Prevention at financial institutions in the Netherlands.
