Kyriba Implementation: Building a Payment Factory with SAP for an Energy Business
Nine banks and SAP connected on a fixed deadline. Now fully live.
An energy business needed to replace Excel and a legacy treasury system with one platform for cash, payments and risk. Zanders delivered a Kyriba implementation integrated with SAP, connecting 42 bank accounts across nine banks in two North American countries and establishing a centralized payment factory. Now fully live, the solution processes 99% of payments through Kyriba and provides daily cash visibility, with standardized approval workflows across 35 payment scenarios.

Replacing fragmented treasury processes across nine banks
A capital-intensive energy business ran treasury on Excel and a legacy system. Cash, payments and risk each sat in a different place, with no single view across them. For a multi-segment business, that meant fragmented visibility and manual work. It needed one treasury management system, live on a fixed timeline. Three goals drove the project:
- Visibility: centralize cash across 42 bank accounts at 9 banks in North America.
- Payments: replace manual approvals with an automated, end-to-end payment workflow across 35 scenarios.
- Efficiency and control: sharpen cash positioning and forecast accuracy, cut manual reconciliation, strengthen controls, establish a payment factory and enhance reporting
The really tough part: nine banks, an ERP and one fixed deadline. Connecting nine banks across two countries and building the SAP interfaces was the critical path. Zanders de-risked it by sequencing the rollout by business segment and running parallel testing and cutover planning, so each segment proved the next.
Designing the Kyriba implementation around the business
Before configuring anything, Zanders learned how the business and its treasury model work. Requirements came first, and the technology was mapped to them.
The client’s treasury team was involved from start to finish: a core team of two treasury colleagues, joined by a third later, captured requirements in planning and design and supported testing. The client’s IT and SAP teams made the project a priority, so progress never stalled.
Zanders owned bank connectivity and payments configuration. A train-the-trainer approach for risk management and accounting leaves the team able to maintain and extend the platform on its own.
We acted as true business advisors: learning the business and its model first, then mapping the technology to its requirements, so the platform delivers real value, not just a configured system.
Integrating SAP with a Kyriba payment factory
Zanders established a payment factory by integrating SAP with Kyriba. Payments flow from SAP through approval workflows to the banks, covering 35 payment scenarios. Zanders owned bank connectivity and payments configuration, connecting all 42 bank accounts across nine banks in two countries. The live solution gives treasury visibility of payment status alongside cash.
Single view of cash: Bank accounts across 9 banks in 2 countries feed daily cash positioning and forecasting, so treasury works from one source of truth instead of reconciling statements by hand.
Payment factory: Payments flow automatically from SAP, through approval, to the bank, across 35 payment scenarios. Status is visible next to cash.
Stronger control: Standardized approvals, consolidated bank account management and one reporting layer replace ad hoc checks across spreadsheets and systems.
Platform built to grow: ERP integration, general ledger accounting, debt and market data all run on the platform, so the business can keep building on it.
99% of payments through Kyriba and daily cash visibility
Path to lower bank costs: 42 of 42 bank accounts connected across 9 banks, opening the door to bank fee analysis and rationalization
Cash visibility: 100% daily cash visibility, with payments and cash in one place.
Payment factory at scale: 99% of payments run through Kyriba, across 35 scenarios.
Fully live by the deadline: The platform is fully live and ready to support the next stage of the business’s treasury.
“Zanders was knowledgeable about the product, transparent about system capabilities, and highly efficient in testing. The Zanders core team was fantastic to work with, and a team I would seek out for future implementations.”
