Dutch industry produced 12.7% more in April compared to the previous year, based on figures from Statistics Netherlands. In March, production increased by 3.3% year-on-year. Almost all business sectors in the industry produced more in April 2021 than in April 2020. The transport equipment industry achieved the highest growth.

The US Senate on Tuesday approved a USD 250 billion government investment for technology research and development. Government investment in scientific research has been declining for years, as has the position of the American semiconductor industry. Of the USD 250 billion, approximately USD 52 billion will be reserved for investment in semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. The plans still need to be approved by the House of Representatives.

The Dutch regional governments will need EUR 13.7 billion for their housing plans in the coming years. Based on a study published on Wednesday into the financing of housing plans commissioned by the Minister of the Interior Kajsa Ollongren (D66). If the government does not support these plans the coming years, the construction of 345,000 of the planned 900,000 homes will not be built before 2030. The study provides a first picture of the necessary investments the next government needs to make to maintain the planned housing production in a country with a shortage of 279,000 houses.
